Year of Renewal 2009-2010

A Letter from Tom Sibert
All Souls Board President
The last six years have been an exciting time at All Souls Unitarian Church. They began with celebration of our centennial
as a voice of liberal religion in central Indiana. In an important effort to continue our tradition, we embarked on a major
building project in 2004. Thanks to the hard work and generosity of all of our members and friends, we completed an
expansion and extensive renovation and now have a church building that will serve us well into our second century. Over
the past few months, there has been a recognition that with our church building secure for the future, now is the time to
move on to a renewal of spirit within the congregation.
Looking first to our minister, the Board recognized the need to fulfill a promise made many years ago to provide Bruce a
sabbatical; a time of refreshment and growth while on leave from his regular ministerial duties. Bruce as well as Nancy are
scheduled to begin their time away in mid-February, 2010 and return in mid-June. The Board and Council have decided
that rather than place our congregational activities on hold while Bruce and Nancy are away, we should instead take the
opportunity to engage in our own period of revival as a congregation. Accordingly, 2010 has been designated “A Year of
Renewal” for the friends and members of All Souls.
The next twelve months will be marked by new activity in the church’s many committees and independent organizations.
In addition, we will explore new ways of coming together as a religious community during our Sunday morning services.
The specifics are being worked on and will be announced as they are finalized. One outstanding example already
scheduled is the Year of Renewal Concert series. We invite everyone to join us in planning and carrying out many new
and revitalized programs and activities in 2010.
