Nancy Renner Clear
Director of Religious Education
Nancy Renner Clear grew up in the small town of Walnut, Illinois until Junior High, when her
family moved to Lebanon, Indiana.  She began college at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she
studies psychology, then transferred to the University of Indianapolis, where she received a
degree in Business Administration.

Before coming to All Souls, she worked as an employment counselor, Assistant for Video
Productions for an advertising agency, Office Manager, Building Manager, and Assistant
Director of Management Information Systems.  She was on the Speaker's Bureau for the
Indiana Chapter for Prevention of Child Abuse, White River State Park, and founded a group
for Parents of Learning Challenged Children.  She also continued studies of Child Development
and Child Psychology.  She is the mother of five children.
Nancy says:

"I came to All Souls as Director of Religious Education in August of 1990.  I was immediately impressed by the people who
volunteered their time at All Souls.  The members who volunteered to help in the Religious Education program, the members who
kept the building maintained, as well as those who worked in the kitchen, sang in the choir, ushered, and cared for the grounds
were all devoted to their church.  It was, and still is, obviously a church "family."  This community has supported each other
through challenging times and celebrations.

"In my first years as D.R.E., we began a tradition of celebrating Earth Day and ultimately have become the "Opening Act" for the
Earth Day Indiana Festival in Indianapolis.  In recent years other local UU churches have joined with us in this venture, sharing
our Unitarian Universalist principle of "respect for the interdependent web of all existence."  I am proud that All Souls has
continued this tradition and is one religious community that respects the environment as part of our religious commitments.

"Watching children grow through the religious education they get as Unitarian Universalists is one of the great benefits of my
position.  The children at All Souls tend to be intelligent, insightful, thoughtful, and wise beyond their years.  They learn to
question and to study, and they have a great time together.  I have learned more from the youth at All Souls than I could have
imagined, and I always look forward to another year of new insights, laughter, and education.  I have been privileged to be a part
of many families' lives over the years and will always treasure the memories, experiences, and love that have been part of being
the Director of Religious Education at All Souls."
