All Souls Unitarian Church "Where Reason and Religion Meet"
Small Groups
Over the last few years in many UU churches there has been developed a program of small groups, usually meeting in members' homes, which explore together many of the religious and life issues that all of us confront. All Souls has started a Small Group program, which presently includes 14 different groups, each with 7 to10 members. To learn more about the importance of small groups, read Bruce Clear's January 8, 2006 sermon, "Saving the World Through Small Groups."
Small Groups at All Souls are open to anyone who wants to participate. The purposes of the groups are to strengthen bonds between group members, to allow for more meaningful interaction, greater caring, and an enhanced life experience. The groups are guided by facilitators who meet regularly with our minister. Each group meets regularly, usually for two hours at a time. Groups are formed around topics of interest, by characteristics that group members share, or by general interest. The session format includes an opening reading, time for a check-in and sharing, discussion on a topic, a time for feedback, and a closing reading.
Current groups include: A Men's Group Sharing Our Lives Group Environmental Stewardship Group Soul Sister Group Exploring the Big Questions in Life Group Spiritual, Religious, and Philosophical Group Intuitive, Artistic and Poetic Group Philosophy and Religion Groups (2 groups) Meditation Group UU Parents with Small Children Group Memoirs Group Zest for Life Group Outdoors Group Secular Humanism Group
