All
Souls Unitarian Church Congregational Meeting
November
19, 2006
Meeting
brought to order at 11:32am.
Canvass Update
Babette
Miller presented information about the Canvass Committee. Currently, there are 217,100 in pledges for
2007. The average increase in pledges is
14.5%, which is very similar to last year at this time. Babette encouraged everyone to please send in
their pledge cards.
Budget Presentation
Don
Killingbeck presented the budget proposal for the 2007 fiscal year. The budget that he presented was voted on and
unanimously passed by the Board of Trustees.
Major changes in the budget included a 24% increase to staff salaries
and a new “sabbatical fund” that was promised to Bruce Clear when he was
hired. This is the first time that we
are able to provide the sabbatical fund, which was the third priority of the
church according to the budget survey that was completed by the congregation.
The
2007 budget was brought to a vote at 11:35am and passed unanimously.
Building Renovation Project Update
Richard
Atwater presented an update for the Building Renovation Project. Upcoming schedules for the Renovation Project
were discussed. Hopefully, the new
building will be open by December 3, 2006 with no barricades, but there will
still be work to be done. The new
windows for the RE wing will be installed by Christmas. In January, the new audio updates in the
sanctuary will be taking place. Richard
encouraged everyone to help us in the New Year with things like moving the
staff into their new offices and moving furniture from the storage pods to the
new building.
Welcoming Congregation Committee Update
Ron
Kieper presented information about the Welcoming Congregation Committee. All Souls is currently working to join 550
congregations in the US and Canada in being a Welcoming Congregation
Church. This is done with help from the
UU Office of Gay/Lesbian/Transgender/Bisexual Concern, which was formed in
1973. All Souls has presented sermons on
diversity and has been working to be as educated as possible on GLTB
issues. Ron wants the congregation to
begin thinking about what we can do after we are officially made a “welcoming”
congregation.
Nominating Committee Update
Bruce
Johnson gave the slate of members proposed to be the Nominating Committee for
2007. Those nominated were Greg Byer,
Lucia Fox, Debi Griffith, John Mendonca, and Fern Page. Approval of these nominees was brought to
vote at 11:51am and they were approved unanimously.
The
meeting was adjourned at 11:51am.
