Minutes

Minutes of the June 9 Board meeting were approved.

Board / Council Retreat Wrap-Up

Minutes of the August 28 Retreat were tabled to give members an opportunity to review them. Bruce J noted that ongoing projects would be listed on the back of the agenda to help with there fruition.

Treasurer’s Report

Ed presented the Treasurers Report with a clear warning that we are running a 34,426.75 deficit for the year.  The collection rate is low and will likely improve with the start of regular services but some serious fundraising is called for.  The 2005 budget will be difficult to bring to a break-even level.

The charter, investment policy and practice of the endowment are being reviewed to make them consistent, up to date and provide needed cash reserves.  Ed brought the following motion.  A) Make Rodney Basson the chair of the Endowment Committee B) Appoint Mike Middleton, Don Killingbeck and Tom Sibert to the Endowment Committee C) Set the investment mix goal to 75% equities, 15% bonds and 10% cash.  The motion was seconded and approved.  Two large mutual fund holdings are Franklin Templeton and American Century Ultra.

Minister’s Report and Religious Education Report

Both reports were presented.  Nancy has encouraged RE representatives to act as greeters to inform visiting families of the RE opportunities.  The All Souls Handbook describing our programs will be available on the literature table as well as in the guest packets.

Renting Space

Richard Melton is willing to advertise the space to fellow realtors so they might lease it for a commission.  Karen Rasmussen is pricing the space.

Projects

Bruce J has received the first donation for the e-bay project.

John R thinks the Oaklandon outdoor sign is a good example of an effective sign.  He will bring in a picture.

The Killingbeck flyer for the carnival will be posted.  Bonnie will notify the media outlets she typically contacts (Branches, Star, Topics, Nuvo).

Babette will spearhead the concession stand project.  Bonnie received information from Aramark.  They control concessions at Conseco, Verison and Victory Field.  Organizations receive between 5 to 12% of the gross revenue.  There is a training session for workers on September 23.  A liquor-serving permit is required.

Bonnie is receiving information on various SCRIP programs.  Bonnie, Jane and Debi Griffith are working on this project.  Marsh certificates will be available one week from this Sunday.  Five percent of the money spent through these programs will go to the church.  The project will ramp up SCRIP offerings into mid November.

People working on the projects or their proxies will make the fundraising announcements.

Jim Schrementi will hold a cooking (Italian) class on October 16 from 9 AM to 2 PM for $25 per person with a maximum of 12 people.  Proceeds will benefit the church.

Bruce J will meet with the Heartland District representatives to improve relations.

Bruce J will pass the hat for air conditioner repair funds next Sunday.

New Business

The Board will run the coffee hour on September 19 and October 31.  Babette has the sign up sheet and wants your goodies to be there.

The current Canvass calendar was distributed with only minor corrections.

Bruce C will include a “Meet and Greet” in the service.

SBC Yahoo is the new web site host. The new web address is www.allsoulsuuindy.org   Using the old address will get you to the new site as well.

The importance of activating the Nominating Committee to fill positions and get people involved was emphasized.

Sarah E will set up a table in the Social Hall as an opportunity place to bring up Joys and Concerns.

The meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM

Mike Middleton, Secretary to the Board
