All Souls Unitarian Church
"Where Reason and Religion Meet"

Lifespan Education 2007-2008
The Lifespan Education Committee offers programming for the church year.  Listed below are some of the programs for
this year. Others will be added as the year progresses.  C
heck the latest church Bulletin for the dates and times for these
and other programs.

ADULT FORUM
This group meets each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. for a lively discussion on a wide variety of topics.  Forum meetings
are held in the Beattie Room of the Religious Education wing.  See the most recent issue of the Bulletin for up-coming
topics.

MEMOIR WRITING/JOURNAL WRITING
If you have thought of writing your memoirs or keeping a record of events in your life, travels and family occasions, this
program is a great opportunity to get organized and begin the process.  It's fun and worthwhile.  Childcare for ages one to
four can be arranged through the Parent's Day Out Program.  The group meets on the first and third Wednesday mornings
of the month from 10:00 A.M. until noon in the library.

PARENTS AS RESIDENT THEOLOGIANS
A popular three-hour class taught by Bruce and Nancy Renner Clear is offered to parents at All Souls each year.
Participants examine their religious backgrounds and journeys, explore what religion means to each individual, and invites
discussion and interaction between participants.  The class will then focus on the role religion can play in children's lives,
and what we can do, as Unitarian Universalists, to support them in their individual searches.  The curriculum provides
ideas to use within the family to highlight important values, and encourages open and honest discussions between parents
and their children.

BUILDING YOUR OWN THEOLOGY
A popular three-part series will be led by Bruce Clear annually in January.  This class is designed to help people clarify in
their own minds what convictions they feel about traditional religious ideas, such as God, afterlife, human purpose and
meaning.  The goal is not to reach answers, but rather to have clarification of beliefs already held.  Dates will be
announced in upcoming bulletins.

AN EVENING OF ALL SOULS HISTORY
An evening will be devoted to discussion and reflection of All Souls history, following the publication of a book written by
Bruce Clear about the ministers of All Souls.  The date for this event will be announced in upcoming Bulletins.

MOVIES WITH HEART AND SOUL
This monthly program, held on a Friday evening, highlights movies from film festivals that are packed with values and
inspiring life experiences.  A pitch-in dinner to share and conversation begin at 6:30 P.M. in the Beattie Room, and the
movie begins around 7:00 P.M.  A fifteen minute discussion follows the movie.  Visit the
calendar to check out the
schedule for Movies with Heart and Soul.

SERMON DISCUSSIONS
Periodically following the Sunday service, Bruce Clear will lead an open discussion about the sermon topic.  Watch for
dates to be published in the newsletter.  Also, copies of certain past sermons are available on the Literature Table for a
suggested donation of $1.00 per sermon.  Transcripts of many
past sermons are also available on our website.

WATCH FOR OTHER PROGRAMS
Classes will be planned throughout the year that are not yet on the church calendar.  Watch for Positive Parenting of UU
Children, Does Unitarianism Stand Up in Times of Crisis?, and more to be announced in the church newsletter.  Crime
Prevention for the Elderly and Adult Protective Services are two programs that will feature speakers from the Marion
County Prosecutor’s Office and will be offered in the spring.  Contact
Bruce Clear or Nancy Renner Clear if you would
like to see a particular class offered.
